UI documentation is better. now. Storybook is a tool for building and documenting UI components in isolation from your app. I came across it while browsing the widgets in Rewind UI. For example, Rewind’s documentation/playground for alert text lives on this page and shows all the variations of color, class names etc. Impressive DX (developer experience, an acronym I only learned a few days ago).
A programmer in prison.
My name is Preston Thorpe, I’m 31 years old and I’ve spent just under 10 years of my life in Prison (all for non-violent drug crimes.) I am currently incarcerated at Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston, Maine. More importantly, far more importantly, I am a software developer, open source maintainer, contributor and all around enthusiast
From How I Got Here
Bringing modals back. One of my favorite things about Arc Browser is that clicking a link in email doesn’t just spawn a new tab to take over the screen. Instead it launches a modal that you can optionally expand. Below is what that looks like in Gmail.
Getting back into GTD. I’ve been an off-and-on practitioner of Getting Things Done for nearly two decades. Recently I started using Omnifocus again and am really happy with it.
One new thing I’ve been doing is using IOS widgets on my home screen, as you can see below. I’ve also connected Siri to Omnifocus so that telling Siri to create a reminder delivers it right to my inbox. I still use Alexa for one-off reminders at home, which I why I have a widget for that too. Everything else goes to Omnifocus.
Hi DJ, you mentioned getting back into GTD and working in OmniFocus. I would suggest that you check out Tana (tana.inc), a new knowledge management tool that allows for a high degree of flexibility in how you structure the system while allowing you to locate information when and where you need it. People are building some pretty amazing set-ups particularly utilizing the built-in openAI connection. It’s still in early access but if you sign up on their website then join their Slack and post in the ‘introduce yourself’ channel, you’ll get an invite quite quickly.
Cheers, Penny
